Service during the first heatwave or cold snap means long waits and emergency rates. Pre-season scheduling also gives you room to plan a repair rather than accept whatever is available.

Annual service is the point at which small problems — a weak capacitor, a dirty burner, a failing contactor — are still inexpensive.

What to check first

  • Equipment age and last service date in your home record
  • Whether the service includes coil cleaning and combustion checks or is inspection only
  • Filter stock before the season begins

When to call a professional

  • Any gas-fired component, refrigerant circuit or electrical control is involved
  • The system did not perform correctly at the end of the previous season
